WELCOME TO BEL AIR BOY'S BASKETBALL!
Who We Are:
Bel Air Boys Basketball offers rec basketball to the greater Bel Air, Maryland area and also supports travel basketball teams that compete in area leagues.
We offer clinic programs for younger boys (5-8) and competitive leagues for older boys (9-15).
Our 2025 season is underway and registration is closed. Registration will open on August 1st, 2026 for both Rec and Travel Basketball.
For the 2026 season, tryouts for our travel program are FREE, but require advance registration (see below).
Our competitive rec leagues will conduct player evaluations and focus on competitive balance in team formation. Teammate requests in competitive leagues ARE EXTREMELY LIMITED.
Annual Key Dates:
August 1st: Registration opens
September 30th: Registration closes
October: Travel tryouts, Rec evaluations, draft, and team selections occur. *Players trying out for Travel that want Rec as a backup should register for Rec basketball and attend player evaluations in addition to Travel Tryouts.
November: Weekly practices start for age groups that have practice (9/10, 11/12, 13/15)
December: Games start - Saturdays at either Bel Air Middle School or McFaul Activity Center
March: Championship Weekend (1st weekend) - end of season

2026 Boys REC Basketball Key Dates
Rec Basketball Player Evaluations are used to allow the commissioner to form balanced teams. We STRICTLY limit teammate requests in competitive brackets.
Registering for Bel Air Rec Basketball is a great option for kids trying out BEL AIR Travel Basketall- and we will apply rec fees to BEL AIR Travel fees for players who make one of our teams, but cannot do so for any other travel program nor are you eligible for a refund.
All kids should arrive in athletic attire, proper footwear and a water bottle for player evaluations. Rec basketball DOES NOT cut players.

2026 Boys TRAVEL Basketball Key Dates
Travel Basketball tryouts are FREE in 2026- but players must register in advance. Aspiring players who want a backup plan should register for Bel Air Rec Basketball. For players who make Bel Air Travel we will apply Bel Air Rec Basketball player registration fees to travel fees.
For players who join a different travel team, we cannot apply our fees to other programs, nor are you eligible for a refund by BARC rules.
Our travel age groups for the 2026 season are TBD- please email boysbballchair@belairrec.org if you are interested in coaching a team.
Players should attend both tryouts for their age group.
All kids should arrive in athletic attire, proper footwear and a water bottle for the tryouts. Every kid will have the opportunity to tryout twice before the coach’s final roster cut. Thank you, see you all at tryouts!

We are completely full for the 2025 season and no longer wait listing players.
Boys Rec Basketball Construct and Rules
Prior to the start of the 2026 Season, we will conduct a review of rules across our age groups, ensuring progression of player development as players mature. Parents should anticipate a blend of Maryland High School Basketball rules for 'rules of the game' and USA Basketball guidelines for ball size, hoop height, and rule changes.
5/6 CLINIC
Receives a one-hour time block on Saturdays at Bel Air Middle. This is generally a practice followed by a scrimmage.
Focus is on introducing the game and learning the beginning skills of dribbling, passing and shooting. Sessions will run each Saturday on half court. Hoop Height is 8 foot, and ball size is 27.5.
All players will be issued a basketball first day of practice and keep this ball at the end of the season.
Players must be 6 years old or younger on the 1st of September.
7/8
Receives a one-hour time block on Saturdays at Bel Air Middle. This is generally a practice followed by a scrimmage
We will continue to work on teaching the game of basketballs, while focusing on more individual fundamental skills. Sessions will begin with fundamental drill practice, and beginning in January will end with a game situation.

Players must be 8 years old or younger on the 1st of September.

Team participated in Harford County Travel and Loyola Leagues.
Eligibility Rules: For liability reasons, only those who have registered for our tryouts may attend tryouts. Due to logistics of the travel team leagues, travel team players may not play rec basketball. For players joining the BEL AIR Travel Team, all BEL AIR Rec fees will be transferred to the costs towards travel for those making the travel teams.
High School Team Players: NO ONE playing high school basketball, whether it is private school or public will be eligible to play on our travel team. NO EXCEPTIONS. For those trying out for our 13+ team, it is important to note that if you make your high school team, we will have VERY limited ability to refund costs. By the time High Schools make decisions, we will have already bought uniforms, paid the BARC fee, and paid league registration dues. Please let us know if you are planning on trying out for your HS team. We will make a note during the try out.
COSTS: Historically range from $200 - $300, depending on number of players on a team, and leagues and/or tournaments the team enters. For players without a uniform, there is an additional $75 cost that includes reversible shorts, a reversible jersey, and a custom warm-up shirt. Parents will know the full-cost of the program before registering. The only approved payment and registration system is Teamsnap, and a coach will provide the link to players selected for the team.

2. The program chair or relevant commissioner will reach out with background check/badging instructions.
Practice Schedule
Travel Teams will receive two practice slots per week, with days/times depending on gym availability.
Leagues and Tournaments
Most of our teams will participate in 2 leagues, Either Harford County Travel, Loyola, or Glen Arm, as well as play in a preseason tournament, and season end tournaments for their leagues. Some may choose to play in 1-2 additional tournaments, in which this will be communicated directly to the team.
Recreation Evaluations
We hope to finalize our travel team prior to Rec Player Evaluations. However, if you have not received a phone call from your coach, whether you made or did not make the team, we need you to attend evaluations if you registered for Rec Basketball.
The coaches evaluating recreation are not the same as the travel, and we need the evaluations to be consistent among the players in the league. Please plan on attending these evaluations, dates and times vary by age group and are covered in the above sections of this site.
