Our Goal

The goal of our program is to provide a safe and productive environment that enables girls from 5 to 16 to learn and apply the principles of teamwork, discipline, dedication, and sportsmanship.  We facilitate the development of strength and character in every child that participates.  Participation in our program is open to all girls in the Harford County area.

We are sustained by the efforts of volunteers who display an extraordinary amount of commitment and hard work, ensuring that our program is a positive influence in the lives of our children.  We also strive to provide a service to our community by providing a healthy outlet for children, opportunities for the community to gather together, and endless hours of entertainment.

Sportsmanship  Teamwork  Strength  Character  Discipline  Dedication

We welcome all children, regardless of race, creed or national origin.

Our program is registered as a non-profit organization with the Bel Air Recreation Committee.  We appreciate the generous support of the community, local merchants, and civic organizations.

Bel Air Girls Basketball FAQ

What does my registration fee cover?

Your registration fee covers a uniform shirt, referee fees, trophies, and a portion goes to the Bel Air Recreation Committee for insurance and general costs.

When does the season start?

Practices typically start the second week of November and occur one night per week with days and times to be determined by the chairperson. Games typically start the second Saturday of December and run until the end of February.

How is the league organized?

Our overall program is run entirely by volunteers. The individual responsible for the overall direction of the program is the chairperson.

How are teams formed?

Teams are formed by the chairperson each year randomly based on the number of players in each age group and the number of available volunteer coaches. Please see our new policy on coach and teammate requests.

13/15

Provided – Bats, Helmets, catchers equipment, Uniforms (hat, shirt, socks)

Required – Baseball Glove, Athletic Supporter (cup) for catchers, Baseball pants, cleats

Optional – Athletic Supporter (cup) ((recommended)) Helmet, Bat, batting glove

If I would like to coach, will my daugther be able to be on my team?

Yes, your daughter may play on your team. When you register to coach, there is a section where you will list your daughter's name.

Can my daugther's play on the same team?

Yes, siblings can play on the same team if they wish to as long as their practice availability doesn't conflict with each other.

How many coaches can one team have?

Each team may have one head coach and one assistant coach. Teams may have additional assistant coaches AFTER teams are formed. They will still need to register, complete a background check, and obtain an ID badge as with all other coaches/volunteers.

Does my child have to play rec to play travel?

No, your daughter does not have to play rec to play travel. However, if your daugther would like to play rec should she not make the travel team, please register her for rec before registration closes. Depending on the number of registered girls and available coaches, there may not be spots available on rec teams if you wait until after travel try-outs. If she does make the travel team, the registration fee can be transferred to the travel fees.

If my child does not make the travel team, can I still register my daughter for rec?

We ask that you please register your daughter for rec before registration closes. Depending on the number of registered girls and available coaches, there may not be spots available on rec teams if you wait until after travel try-outs.

Can my child "play-up" in a higher age group?

On occasion, a player may be sufficiently talented to play up in an older age group. Parents should consider this carefully as a younger player may be at risk, no matter what her skill level is. No player younger than 6 years old will be allowed to play in the 7-8 age group. No player younger than 8 years old will be allowed to play in the 9-10 age group. No player younger than 10 will be allowed to play in the 11-12 age group. No player younger than 12 will be allowed to play in the 13-15 age group.

Where and when are teams played?

Games are played on Saturdays at either Red Pump Elementary School or Southampton Middle School. If games are cancelled as a result of weather, an attempt to make-up the games will be made but cannot be guaranteed.

What are our rules of play?

We generally follow the National Federation of State High School Association rules, however, we do insitute specific age group rules. The rules are posted under "Bel Air Team Pages".

Who needs a background check?

Any person over 18 years old who is coaching, officiating, or volunteering at a Bel Air Rec sponsored event will need to pass a background check. Details about the background check are posted under "Background Checks".

Where and when can I get an ID badge printed?

ID badges are printed on the fourth Tuesday of each month at the McFaul Center from 6:30p-7:30p.

Can I get a refund for my registration if my player decides she doesn't want to play?

Not unless the circumstances fall under our standard refund policy umbrella. Here is our stated refund policy that is described in each of our registration programs: REFUND POLICY: No refunds will be issued unless the program is cancelled, the participant moves out of state, or a serious injury prevents the player's participation, prior to the start date of the program.
